The village of Alberobello, UNESCO World Heritage Site, was established in 1196 to preserve its historic buildings known as trulli. The town of Alberobello is known for its unique collection of trulli - whitewashed stone huts with conical roofs that have been around for centuries. It is considered the largest collection in the world. Some of the trulli have been converted into small bed and breakfast accommodations, and the town has become a popular tourist destination.
