Why should families stay in a Tuscany Holiday Villa?

Why stay in a boring old hotel when you and your family can live like locals in a stunning Tuscan Villa? No, seriously. Hotels just can't compare when you've got a place with so much space and freedom. Say goodbye to being cramped – with a villa, everyone gets their own bedroom. That means kids, parents, and grandparents will all have their private places to relax, but they can also all get together in the spacious living room to spend some quality time together.

And guess what else? There are no more noisy neighbours next door or fighting with other hotel guests over the pool or breakfast buffet. It's your own little slice of paradise with all the privacy you need. Little ones can splash in the pool to their hearts’ content while the grown-ups relax on the terrace with a glass of Chianti. The kitchens are fully equipped too. If your kids have had enough of pizza and pasta (although that sounds highly unlikely), you can make their go-to dish back home.

Best of all, we offer babysitting services in our villas too, so mum and dad can have some grown-up time. We can even fix up the villa with high chairs, cribs, toys (subject to availability, of course) to make the space more safe and comfortable for the little ones. And our concierge service is also available 24/7, so if you need anything at all, they’ll be right there to help you.

Beyond the bustling city life, Tuscany’s countryside serves up picturesque towns like San Gimignano—a place that feels like stepping back in time. With its medieval towers, charming squares, and offerings of olive oil tastings and winery tours, it’s the ideal spot for families and friends to connect with nature and savour life’s simple pleasures. Add in some beach time at Castiglione della Pescaia or the vibrant carnival atmosphere in Viareggio, and you’ve got a recipe for the adventure of a lifetime. You can also enjoy many festivals throughout the year, where you can get properly acquainted with local culture through the music and the food; it's all there.

And guess what? It doesn't matter if you're into hiking, biking, or even floating about in a hot air balloon! Tuscany really knows how to show you a good time by inviting you to slow down, reconnect, and enjoy every moment with your loved ones.

With its breathtaking landscapes and wide range of attractions and activities for all ages, Tuscany is a dream destination for families.

The capital city Florence is an ideal base for villa vacations in Tuscany. In addition to cultural attractions, families can enjoy exploring the city's gardens and bike trails. Day trips to nearby cities like Lucca, Pisa and Arezzo are also convenient from Florence.

Key attractions for families include the Uffizi Gallery, Accademia Gallery housing Michelangelo's David, and the Leonardo da Vinci Museum at Via dei Servi 66. Kids will enjoy interactive tours of the art galleries.

Iconic sights like the Florence Cathedral, Ponte Vecchio Bridge, Basilica of Santa Croce and Pitti Palace are must-sees. A visit to Pitti Palace is best combined with a trip to the beautiful Boboli Gardens located behind the palace. Make sure to get your kids some gelato afterwards!

For an idyllic getaway, the picturesque hill town of San Gimignano is ideal. Families can explore the town's main squares - Piazza della Cisterna and Piazza del Duomo - as well as attractions like the San Gimignano 1300 Museum, Palazzo Comunale, Torre Grossa Tower, the Cathedral and Sant'Agostino church. Beyond the town centre, families can go for walks and bike rides in the countryside or join olive oil tastings and winery tours.

A summer vacation in Tuscany is not complete without spending time at the beach. The region's coastal towns offer beautiful beaches and seaside activities for families.

Some of the best coastal towns include Castiglione della Pescaia surrounded by greenery, the lively beach town Viareggio on the northern coast known for its carnival, and the port city of Livorno famous for its seafood and fortifications.

Tuscany has a variety of kid-friendly attractions like adventure parks, water parks, wildlife reserves and more. Families can spend the day at water parks like Acqua Village with a range of slides and pools. Cavallino Matto theme park in Livorno features roller coasters, performances and more for children aged 3 and above. Adventure parks across the region offer outdoor activities like zip lining, obstacle courses and suspension bridges.

Tuscany's peaceful countryside, beautiful villages and historic towns provide an inspiring and rejuvenating environment for families to reconnect, slow down and enjoy quality time together.
With festivals and events happening year-round, Tuscany villa vacationers have many opportunities to experience local festivities and culture.

If you’re a music lover: You can enjoy various music festivals, featuring genres like blues, opera, jazz and pop. The Lucca Summer Festival is a highly anticipated event that features a lineup of renowned artists from across the world. Other popular festivals include the Pistoia Blues Festival, the Musicastrada Festival, and the Puccini Festival.

If you visit during February: The Carnival of Viareggio is not to be missed. Considered one of the most famous carnival celebrations in Italy and Europe, the month-long festival features colourful parades, marching bands, masked balls and parties happening throughout the day and night.

If you’re a food lover: You must check out the food festivals including the San Miniato White Truffle Festival and Chianti Classico Wine Festival showcase the local cuisine and wine. You can participate in food and wine tastings, watch artisans at work and join guided tours of wineries and other venues.

If you’re a nature lover: Nature lovers and adventurers can enjoy the myriad outdoor activities that Tuscany offers. Go picnicking in the countryside, or hop into a hot air balloon to enjoy aerial views of the region’s stunning landscapes.

If you’re an adventure seeker: There are hiking and biking trails to suit all ages and abilities. Families can opt for child-friendly nature reserve walks or guided bike tours of attractions like the Lucca Wall, Etruscan Coast and Chianti wine region. More challenging hiking routes and mountain biking trails of varying difficulty are also available.
There are several options for getting around Tuscany. Driving yourself offers the greatest freedom of movement, allowing you to set your own schedule and stop wherever you wish. There is a well-maintained network of highways and secondary roads throughout the region. However, driving can be stressful due to heavy traffic in cities and narrow, winding roads in rural areas.

High-speed trains run frequently between Florence and Siena, with journeys taking around 45 minutes. The train stations for both cities are located close to the historic centres, making it convenient to reach hotels, restaurants and attractions. Tickets can be booked online in advance.

Public buses serve smaller towns and villages, connecting them with larger cities. However, bus schedules tend to be less frequent compared to the train. Buses also often require changing in larger towns to reach your final destination. Advance booking is typically not required for buses.

For exploring individual villages and wineries, hiring a driver and vehicle is a practical option. This gives you the freedom of a car while not requiring you to drive yourself. If you need help renting a car or a personal driver, please contact us and we can arrange something for you.
Each season in Tuscany offers its unique charms. Spring (March to May) is ideal for sightseeing and alfresco dining, with the landscape bursting into life with wildflowers and new grapevine growth. Cultural sites and museums reopen with special spring exhibitions, making it a delightful time to explore.

Summer (June to August) is festival season in Tuscany, with outdoor concerts, food festivals, and arts events popping up everywhere. This is the peak tourist season, so be sure to book popular attractions in advance.

If you prefer a more laid-back experience, consider visiting in autumn (September to November). The landscape turns vibrant with fall foliage, it’s grape harvesting and truffle season, and many wineries hold special autumn festivals.

For a quieter, more intimate experience, winter (December to February) is your best bet. Fewer tourists mean more space to explore cities, towns, and the countryside. Plus, you can enjoy traditional Christmas markets, concerts, and special holiday menus at local restaurants.
Tuscany's rich history stretches back thousands of years, beginning as a vibrant cultural hub long before the Romans. The land of the Etruscans, Tuscany was an early epicenter of art, culture, and innovation. These ancient inhabitants left behind a legacy of exquisite tombs and artifacts that still fascinate historians today. Tuscany then flourished under Roman rule, becoming a key player in trade and politics, but it truly reached its zenith during the Renaissance.

The Renaissance turned Tuscany, particularly Florence, into the glittering jewel of Europe. Luminaries like Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, and Botticelli called it home, their masterpieces funded by the powerful Medici family. This era transformed Florence into the cradle of modern Western culture, producing art and architecture that continue to awe visitors. The medieval period also left its mark, bestowing the region with castles, fortresses, and iconic towers that whisper tales of intrigue and valour. Today, Tuscany seamlessly blends its historic charm with modern luxuries, offering an irresistible allure for travellers seeking both culture and comfort.

How long should I stay in Tuscany?

Most visitors spend between 1 to 2 weeks in Tuscany to have an in-depth experience of the region. This allows time to visit multiple towns and cities, explore the countryside and relax at a villa.

One week is sufficient to see the highlights of Tuscany like Florence, Siena, San Gimignano and hilltop towns. However, you'll likely miss out on smaller villages and experiencing the slower Tuscan pace of life.

Two weeks or more in Tuscany allows you to visit multiple wine regions, go hiking or cycling, and truly unwind at a villa rental. You'll have time to sample the local cuisine and experience festivals or events in different towns.

The ideal length of stay depends on your interests, travel pace and budget. We recommend blocking out at least 10 full days to 2 weeks if you want to fully immerse yourself in Tuscan culture.

Where are the best places to eat in Tuscany?

Tuscany's culinary scene is nothing short of spectacular. For starters, make sure to book a table at Florence's three Michelin-starred Enoteca Pinchiorri, which serves up creative Tuscan cuisine that’s as artistic as its resident city. If you’re craving traditional Tuscan fare, La Giostra, also in Florence, is a one-star Michelin gem.

If you’re a fan of grilled meats, the Osteria di Passignano in the Chianti region is a must-visit, set in a picturesque winery. Over in Montepulciano, Caino’s two Michelin stars shine brightly with its innovative Tuscan menu. Pro tip: thousands of people line up to dine here, so make sure to book a table far ahead.
